Great local place for fish & chips! The restaurant is clean and staff are very friendly. We liked it so much that we came here twice during our 5 day visit. We ordered the haddock and chips both times. The fish portions are very generous and the oil is very clean (see photos). Next time we are in this area, we will definitely come back. Highly recommended!

We were pitstopping at Port Hope and happened to come in. We were lucky to get a seat. This seems to be a popular place, people were taking out and dining in constantly! We ordered the halibut x 2 and salad, 1 kids chicken tender and fries and kids hamburger and fries. The fish were crispy and soft. I enjoyed my garden salad. They should have the tar tar sauce in a bigger container. The fries could be a bit crispier. Their portions were generous. Service was good.

Captain George Fish & Chips is absolutely amazing! I recently went there after an open house I was doing in the neighborhood.I had their delicious fish and Greek salad. The flavors were outstanding, and I was blown away by the quality of the food. I highly recommend trying it out if you're in the mood for some tasty fish and a refreshing Greek salad. My wife and I drove to Port Perry for an afternoon day trip, yesterday (Saturday April 12 2025). We stayed long enough to be around for dinner. Well - we decided to pop into to Captain George's Fish & Chips. The place was hoppin' busy with eat in and take away meals being prepared and consumed everywhere. The Halibut and Chips was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS The customer service is phenomenal. The price for 1 Halibut 1 Chips 1 Can of pop, is the most bang for my buck for this specific meal I have experienced in a long time. We TOTALLY RECOMMEND this eating establishment 110 % . Enjoyed Rating 12 / 10

Absolutely the best Halibut in Fish & Chips style! Multiple options on menu, good for a group, maybe one prefers salad to fries, or wants both instead of just fries. Professional supportive staff for a pretty busy place, especially for before-noon timing on a non-holiday Friday!! The tables and bathroom were clean. We LOVED it, and now we know if we want a perfect Fidh & Chips, we have come around this little spot by Scugog Lake ;)

UPDATED Saturday, March 1st at 4:45 p.m. We decided to have lunch, Sat at the table and tossed some vinegar on our fries and the vinegar had floating stuff inside. Which is absolutely ridiculous, first time I've ever seen that in my life. And the cook decided it was a good idea to laugh about it. Laughing right back at you buddy. ----------------- This restaurant has been a part of my family since I was seven years old. My father worked at this location alongside George and his son. I have fond memories of watching my dad cook, along with George and the rest of the kitchen staff. Captain George’s was also my first job—I started by washing dishes in the back. At that age, I just loved being in the kitchen with my dad, so he gave me a little job to help out. As kids, whenever we were hungry, we’d open the back door of the kitchen and ask my dad for a small order of fries. Those were special times. Over the years, I’ve seen many new faces come and go. I’ve also witnessed major changes, especially to the restaurant’s interior design. Unfortunately, it feels like Captain George’s has lost its touch and its history. The atmosphere no longer reminds me of a place where you'd sit down and enjoy fish and chips. The old charm is gone—it doesn’t feel fish-and-chip-friendly anymore. I miss the original design, with privacy screens, fish pictures, nets, lighthouses, and that classic light blue color that made you feel like you were by the sea. It truly captured the essence of a fish and chips restaurant. Now, the open-concept layout lacks warmth and privacy. It just doesn’t feel the same. On my last visit, I realized Captain George’s isn’t Captain George’s anymore. I didn’t even feel comfortable dining in—the new layout took away the cozy, familiar feeling. Privacy matters, and the open-concept design was an unnecessary change. To add to that, there was only one cook working on a Sunday afternoon. He was backed up with orders, and service was slow, but despite the challenges, the food still turned out great. This is my honest opinion, and it’s a sad one. Captain George’s just isn’t what it used to be.

I hadn't been at this restaurant for about a decade but decided I should try it. I went on a Thursday eve and it wasn't busy. There was a friendly greating when I walked in the door. I was seated quickly and given the menu. I ordered Halibut Fish and Chips but with onion rings instead of fries. The food came in a reasonable period of time with generous servings. The fish was perfectly cooked and the batter nice and crispy. (Same on the onion rings). Overall a great fried halibut dinner!
